How to Conquer Temptations

I love my job… it really is the best place in the world! I work at Browns Bridge Church, which is a North Point Community Church campus. However, it is a place that people are known to gain the “NPM 15” in their first year on the job. For example, here is a picture of our team meeting last week…  

I mean, what!? How are you supposed to just sit in front of all that food and not indulge?! Let me share with you what I do to avoid caving into temptations.

Plan: I like to have a general idea of what my meals & snacks will be for the day. Writing it out is helpful for grocery shopping. This was my plan last week:

Once I plan, then I meal prep. It is really nice to be able to open the fridge and see all my prepped lunches waiting on me.

Snacks: I don’t necessarily eat everything I have planned to eat, but it’s nice to know I have the option. I can switch things around if needed. If I want to have snack 2 early because I’m with others who are eating & feel tempted, I can! However, I have to know that I will be sacrificing a snack for later in the day.

Accountability partners: I always encourage people to bring their goals into the light by saying them out loud. It makes them real! Share your what you want to do with a couple of co-workers. They can be there when you feel like you’re going to cave or encourage you when you’re doing well! Believe me when I say community is a huge part of living a healthy lifestyle. At the end of the day, you’re a product of your surroundings.

Water: Lots of water makes you feel full. Go for about 1 gallon a day at first, then continually build. It helps to break it up. Drink one bottle of water with each meal and each snack. That equals 1 gallon!

When you do indulge: It is certainly okay to indulge every now and then. You have to live your life! I would recommend putting your portions on a plate – dips, crackers, everything. Have one plate and don’t reach for seconds. It’s easy to go overboard when you can’t see your portions.

Once you finish just one day of not caving, you feel so accomplished! You can lay your head on the pillow at night with a sense of confidence you didn’t have that morning. Let me tell you, it’s an awesome feeling.
